Flash floods

Once in a while you don’t have to venture far from home to get caught up in high drama, something normally associated with far-flung destinations rather than life in the suburbs.

In twenty years we have not witnessed such freak weather in this part of town. Torrential rain fell here in the aftermath of Cyclone Yasi, which made landfall 3000 kilometres away in North Queensland and caused widespread destruction (and of course I cannot pretend we have experienced anything remotely like the recent devastation in that part of Australia).  Could La Nina herald the beginning of a Year of Wonders on the world’s driest continent?
